The curious case of the Trump News Commentary accounts
None of these X accounts report news or have any connection to the public figures whose names they use, but their posts get a lot of engagement anyway
Over the last year or so, a network of blue-check X accounts with names like “Donald J. Trump News 🇺🇸 Commentary”, “Ivanka Trump Daily 🇺🇸 Commentary”, and “Elon Musk News” has been regularly posting repetitive pro-Trump engagement bait. Despite having no apparent connection to the Trump administration figures after which they are named, and engaging in no original news reporting, these accounts have amassed significant followings, with the largest, “JD Vance (Fanpage News)” having accrued over 888 thousand followers as of July 24th, 2025. Many of their posts have racked up significant engagement, frequently being reposted hundreds or thousands of times. Most of the accounts have “Fan account” or “Parody account” labels.
This analysis focuses on a network of ten extremely similar and mutually interacting Trump administration-themed “news” accounts. Eight of the ten accounts were created between May 4th and May 6th, 2024; two, “Melania Trump Daily 🇺🇸 Commentary” and “Ivanka Trump Daily 🇺🇸 Commentary”, were created earlier, on January 23rd and April 27th, 2024 respectively. Each account’s biography contains a variation on the phrase “Turn on Notification to be the first to get Breaking News”, usually accompanied by a bell emoji. (The “Melania Trump Daily 🇺🇸 Commentary” account was suspended by X while this article was being written, and is presently offline.)
Each of the ten accounts in the network follows all or almost all of the other nine, and few or no other accounts. This characteristic is how the network was mapped, using the “Kash Patel News (FanPage)” account as a starting point and branching outward. Among the other accounts frequently followed by the network is “MAGA NEWS” (@usanews0), another dubious “news” account with 76 thousand followers as of the time of this writing. Unlike the ten accounts in the network, this account follows several thousand other accounts and is not presently adorned with a blue checkmark.
Most of the content posted by the accounts in the spam network is pro-Trump political engagement bait, frequently beginning with the word “BREAKING” accompanied by a red siren emoji. These posts are repetitive, with many duplicated verbatim by multiple accounts in the network over time. Some of the posts have also been duplicated by accounts that are not obvious members of the spam network. The network’s repetitive posts frequently rack up significant numbers of likes, views, and reposts.
In addition to following one another, the accounts in the spam network also regularly repost and reply to each other’s spammy content. Most of the accounts repost both their own posts and those of every other account in the network; the “Melania Trump Daily 🇺🇸 Commentary” account (@MelaniaTrumpo) is excluded from the above table, as it was suspended by X while the relevant data was being gathered. Some of the spam accounts also repost the @usanews0 account mentioned earlier in this article, which itself reposts several of the spam accounts.
Back in 2024, the accounts in the spam network profusely replied to the @usanews0 account’s posts in addition to reposting them. These replies generally came in the form of flurries of agreement, with most or all of the spam accounts replying to each @usanews0 post with some version of “yes” or “I agree”. Due to the spam accounts’ blue checks, these replies are often pushed up to the top of the relevant reply sections despite their spammy nature.
